About Us

Let's face it, life is a team effort. Especially in the US Foreign Service. We've been a Foreign Service family of four since 2012, and we were a military family for several years before that. We're currently on our second assignment in Washington, D.C., with previous assignments to Nairobi, Kenya;  Nicosia, Cyprus;  Jeddah, Saudi Arabia; and Washington, D.C.

While this blog started out as a way for Greg to digitize and share his travel journals & photos, it has evolved into a platform for both of us to share our foreign service experiences. If you're interested, here are some of the adventures we've been on.

Greg is a Foreign Service Construction Engineer (FSCE), so he gets to build and improve American embassies & consulates around the world. Before that, he spent 10 years as an Air Force civil engineering officer with assignments to RED HORSE, South Korea, Germany, and the Air Force Special Operations Command staff.

He's fond of the mantra "Get comfortable with being uncomfortable", which is good considering how often we find ourselves in unfamiliar territory. Fortunately, the skills and confidence that he's developed as an Eagle Scout, private pilot & certified drone operator, open water diver, certified sailor, Air Force officer, and M.I.T. graduate, means
he's pretty good at improvising a solution to whatever problems arise while raising our two girls or exploring new worlds. He also keeps himself entertained with some side projects.

Kacey's always had a passion for improving the world around her. An urban planner and public administrator by training, Kacey was pushed in new directions by our nomadic lifestyle and is now a licensed real estate agent. During our first D.C. assignment, she completed Georgetown University's Teaching English as a Foreign Language (TEFL) Certificate Program and started her own TEFL blog. She developed a passion for Pilates while we were abroad and earned certification to teach BASI Pilates during our second Washington, D.C. tour.

She considered herself an (in)dependent military spouse and is now looking into opportunities to work with NGOs during our future State Department assignments. During our assignment to Jeddah, she was one of the Community Liaison Office (CLO) Coordinators at post. She was also a member of the Foreign Service Family Reserve Corps but currently enjoys racing in triathlons to working in an office.

In addition to all of that, she is also applying her planning skills and her experiences as a collegiate scholar-athlete goaltender, high school girls soccer coach, and dive master to raising our girls as self-rescuing princesses while living an "extraordinary life."

Now, if you'll excuse us, there's a whole world out there to explore. Feel free to follow us on social media (links at the top of the page).
